ChatGPT reaches Crustdata through the same MCP server as every other client. Crustdata is not in the OpenAI directory yet, so you add it as a custom connector.
OpenAI has not reviewed the Crustdata server, so ChatGPT asks you to turn on Developer mode first. On a team plan, an admin may need to approve the connector. See Approval on team plans.
The endpoint is the same everywhere:
  • One URL to add. No SDK, no local process, no config file.
  • Browser sign-in. No API key to paste into a chat.
  • The same tools everywhere. The data tools you already have in Claude, Cursor, and the CLI.

Before you start

Turn on developer mode

Open your security settings

In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Security and login.

Turn on Developer mode

Scroll to Developer mode and turn it on.

Add the connector

Open the plugin directory

Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, or click Plugins in the ChatGPT sidebar. Some versions label this section Connectors.

Start a new connector

Click the + button next to the search box to open the New Plugin dialog.

Fill in the connection

  • Name: Crustdata
  • Connection: Server URL
  • Server URL: https://install.crustdata.com/mcp
  • Authentication: OAuth

Confirm and create

Select I understand and want to continue, then click Create.

Connect

Open the connector, click Connect on the Connection row, then sign in.
The connector then shows a Review status of development, which is normal for one you added yourself.

Approval on team plans

Team plans only: ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Edu. Crustdata is not verified in the OpenAI directory, so a workspace admin may need to allow developer mode or approve the connector.If Developer mode is missing or the connector will not save, ask your admin to allow it, then add it again. Personal plans have no approval step.

Check it worked

Ask ChatGPT:
How many Crustdata credits should I have?
A number means you are connected. The connector lists three tools, execute, list_tools, and get_schema, rather than one per data type. That is expected. If you get no number:
  • Check the Connection row. If it still reads Connect, the sign-in did not finish.
  • Start a new chat. A connector added mid-conversation may not be picked up until you do.
  • Confirm Lockdown mode is off.

Try it

Ask for what you want in plain English:
  • “Show me AI startups with 100-500 employees”
  • “Who are the engineering leaders at Anthropic?”
  • “What jobs does Stripe have open right now?”
  • “Find the profile for jane.doe@acme.com”
A single request can chain steps: “Find AI startups hiring engineers, then get me the founders’ emails.”
